SVOA sees healthy laptop market growth

IT product maker and distributor SVOA is upbeat about the growth of the laptop computer market this year, despite a slow-down in the economy.
The company forecasts the laptop market this year will grow between 30 per cent and 40 per cent - 600,000 to 700,000 units - Vira Intanate, chief executive of SVOA's IT Distribution Strategic Business Unit, said yesterday. "The market still has an ample room for growth, which will be contributed by those who replace their old laptops," he said. The ratio rate of ownership of desktop and laptop PCs in Thailand is still low, at one laptop PC per six users, he added. Moreover, the price of laptops has dropped and many can now be bought at the more widely affordable level of about Bt20,000, he said. This year SVOA targets sales of 24,000 laptops. The company yesterday introduced the "Winter Collection" of its SVOA brand of trendy laptops, which feature 25 different colourful cover patterns. Veera said the trendy covers were part of a strategy to differentiate its brand from others and to draw fashion-conscious IT users.
