Truck spills flammable xylene

Officials inspect clean-up efforts following the accident in Samut Prakan yesterday.
A six-wheel truck carrying 6,000 litres of a highly flammable chemical overturned on Muang Samut Prakan's Wat Tamru-Klong Kao Road yesterday morning.

No deaths or injuries were reported. Driver Senee Khamsee, 32, told police that his truck - carrying xylene, a flammable substance used in paints, to the Bang Pu industrial estate - nearly collided with a motorcycle overtaking in the opposite lane, prompting him to swerve suddenly.

The move caused the truck to lose control and overturn, spilling the foul-smelling substance all over the road.

The road was blocked while firefighters hurried to spray chemical foam over the spilled xylene to prevent it from igniting. Officials spent three hours using heavy machinery to get the truck upright.
