Doubles setback for Thais

Thailand had their backs to the wall in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I tie against Taiwan after they lost the doubles to fall 1-2 behind the hosts in Taipei yesterday.
The Asian Games silver medallists Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana went down to Chen Ti and Yi Chu-huan 3-6 3-6 3-6. The stunning defeat in the doubles means Thailand must win today's two reverse singles in order to grab a victory. Thailand and Taiwan split the first singles on Friday. "We were under pressure because we wanted to win this point. We made so many mistakes and we have only ourselves to blame,'' said younger brother Sanchai. Team manager Phitsanu Atthakornsiripho said Thailand would make a change in today's line-up by replacing Weerapat Doakmaiklee with Sonchat in the final rubber against Lee Hsin-han. But Danai Udomchoke is still set to meet Chen Ti in the fourth clash. "We discussed things and we agreed that Sonchat is a better player in terms of experience. I'm confident Danai will beat Chen and Sonchat will give our team the win eventually,'' Phitsanu said. Sonchat has never played Lee and admitted he would be under heavy pressure today. "This is be my first time playing in a crucial match that could decide the tie," said Sonchat. Ranked 79 in the world, Danai is expected to have no problem clearing his hurdle against Chen. "I will try not to think about the results. I will stick to my game plan and give my best shot,'' Danai said.
