CDC questions 'biased'

The majority of 1,347 respondents to a recent poll feel that the 28 questions the Constitution Drafting Committee will ask in its public-opinion survey on the new charter are based on a preconceived agenda and meant to sway the public in a predetermined direction.
"I'm worried about the referendum. The people see the questionnaire in the light of a foregone conclusion. One unsatisfactory point may lead to a rejection. It doesn't augur well for the constitution passing the referendum," Suan Dusit Rajabhat University deputy rector Sukhum Charoeysap said yesterday. The poll - conducted on February 5 to 9 in Bangkok and surrounding areas - revealed majority support for a reduction in the number of MPs, a limit of two four-year terms for future prime ministers, a ban on politicians having conflicts of interest, the appointment of senators from representatives of various sectors, and the facilitating of motions of no confidence in the prime minister.
