Virada to spice up the Ladies Open

Local star Virada Nirapathpongporn will head the Thai assault in the US$100,000 Thailand Ladies Open at Green Valley Country Club from March 7-9.
A total of 119 golfers from 19 nations, including Australia, Canada, England, India, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, are taking part. South Korean Park Hee Young, who lifted the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Trophy at Pattana Golf Club last year, will be there to defend her crown. The Thailand Ladies Golf Association will be fielding a 16-member squad, including Titiya Prueksathaporn, Porani Chutichai, Rassamee Gulyanamitta and Pornanong Phatlum. The tournament offers $100,000 in prize money plus $10,000 for the Pro-Am Tournament, which will be held on March 6. The first and second rounds will be on March 7 and 8 from 7.30am, while the final round starts at 8am the following day on the par-72 course. The back nine in the final round will be televised live on True Visions from 12pm. The meet is the third leg of the Ladies Asian Golf Tour, which started with the $80,000 Macau Ladies Open last month at the Macau Golf and Country Club. The second leg was the $80,000 Hong Kong Ladies Masters from January 31 to February 2 at Discovery Bay Golf Club. The $100,000 DLF India Women's Open, a new tournament on the LAGT 2007 calendar, is the fourth stop. It will be held in New Delhi from March 14-16.
