Normal service has almost been resumed: Sonthi

Thailand is close to having polit?ical normalcy restored, and the ousted government can never regain power, Council for National Security chairman General Sonthi Boonyaratglin said yesterday.
"Success is near, and the civil ser?vants can help to move the country forward by uniting to uproot the legacy of the ousted government," Sonthi said. He was speaking to Justice Ministry officials on patriotism. The graft investigations by the Assets Examination Committee and the National Counter Corruption Commission are close to completion, and the judicial review on electoral fraud may lead to the dissolution of the Thai Rak Thai Party, he said. "About 200 key members are about to leave their former ruling party, and what was once considered powerful will soon be hollow," he said. To usher in a new chapter of dem?ocratic rule, soldiers have been dis?patched to assist 10 million villagers to renouncing money politics and understand the true meaning of democracy. "Some misguided people contin?ue to tolerate corruption, but this is unacceptable and tantamount to allowing the mismanagement of the country in exchange for material rewards," he said. He said Thais should emulate the patriotism and discipline shown in China, Japan and Vietnam.
