Charter-writing chief wants participation from public

Charter-drafting panel chairman Noranit Setabutr yesterday urged the public to express opinions on the new constitution via community radio stations.
"People should participate in the charter-drafting process as much as possible," he said, The ubiquitous stations can play a leading role in disseminating suggestions for the charter being composed by the 35-member panel, which will be completed within 180 days, by early July, he said. The new charter should promote political stability and ensure that effective checks and balances are firmly in place, he said. While the ban on political gatherings has not yet been lifted, people can still take part in the writing process by submitting their ideas to members of his committee. "Those who want to convey their point of view should do so quickly, because the time for framing the new charter is only 180 days. Don't wait until it's all finished," he said.
