The Host

The Story: "The Host" has been critically acclaimed for its political comment and anti-American context. Not only has it been successful in film festivals, it has also become the highest grossing South Korean film of all time. Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the film swept five of Korea's Blue Dragon Awards including Best Director and Best Screenplay.

The film starts when Gang-du (Song Kang-ho), a food vendor on the banks of the Han River, witnesses a strange creature climb up from the river and start eating people including his daughter Hyun-seo (Ko A-sung). The creature then disappears back into the river. The government announces that the thing is host to an unidentified virus. Fearing the worst, Gang-du receives a phone call from his daughter, who is frightened, but still alive. Gang-du makes plans to infiltrate the forbidden zone near the Han River to rescue his daughter from the clutches of the horrifying host.

The Disc: Distributed by J-Bics Company, the DVD includes more special features than usual. Behind-the-scenes extras include "Design Creature", "Creature Making Process" and "Creature Animatronics". The movie has English and Thai subtitles with Korean and Thai audio. But the special features have only Thai subtitles. The cover price is Bt359 with retail prices ranging from Bt200 to Bt320.

An Inconvenient Truth

The Story: Former US vice president Al Gore presents an eye-opening and compelling view of the future of our planet. Footage depicts how the world has changed because of global warming. The documentary brings home Gore's persuasive argument that we must act now to save the earth. Each and every one of us can make changes in the way in which we live our lives and become part of the solution.

The film is Oscar-nominated for Best Documentary Feature and Best Original Song for "I Need To Wake Up" by Melissa Etheridge.

The Disc: The film's special features include an "Update by the former Vice President Al Gore", a making-of feature and a music video of  "I Need To Wake Up". There is also commentary from the director, Davis Guggenheim.

The DVD has only English audio with English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Thai subtitles.

Cover price is Bt649 and retail prices are from Bt350 to Bt620.

Release Date: Out now.
