IN BRIEF
exports

Garment-makers warn that dearer transport will cut competitiveness The Thai Garment Manufacturers' Association has said the country's logistics costs will jump to 23 per cent of total Gross Domestic Consumption this year from 19 per cent last year.

The association said the rising logistics costs had exporters worried about reduced competitiveness. The government must urgently help solve the problem or else Thai exporters will be unable to compete, said Vallop Vitanakorn, vice president of the association.

The major problem is that Thai enterprises lack the business connections necessary to decrease transportation costs, he said. - The Nation.

Tourism : Speedboat pads Paradee fleet

The Paradee luxury resort on Koh Samet has added a 660-horsepower five-seater Fountain speedboat to its fleet. The Fountain covers the nine-kilometre distance from Baan Phe pier to the resort's floating jetty in about 10 minutes.

The Fountain will be available on request to transfer guests between Koh Samet and Pattaya, Koh Chang and even across the Gulf of Thailand to Hua Hin, a journey of about four and a half hours. The service is only offered in calm weather conditions.

The Paradee has also added a 12-metre four-seater, one-bedroom 280HP Sea Ray luxury yacht cruiser to its fleet, which will be used for day trips to islands in the Khao Laem Ya-Mu Koh Samet marine national park. - The Nation.
