Striking condo designs

Minimal-ist has created four distinct design concepts for the St Louis Grand Terrace condominiums, each of them tailored to the owner's lifestyle
Minimal-ist, an interior design company, has created four decoration concepts for the St Louis Grand Terrace condominium on Bangkok's Sathorn Road: Luxury, Contemporary, Modern Life and Modern Smart. Minimal-ist designer Pornpatchara Kunjara na Ayudhaya says the designs represent different concepts, depending on the lifestyle of the home-owner. The first concept is Modern Smart, designed to match the modern lifestyle of entrepreneurs. The theme is an information technology lifestyle, with white and grey as the main décor colours. Pornpatchara says that white creates a sense of brightness and space for small rooms, while grey matches the modern furniture design. "We selected the built-in furniture for decoration to increase space and allow more functions for a small family," she says. A small guest room, also in white and grey, is decorated in different textures of wallpaper and wood. Pornpatchara also selected white wood as the raw material to decorate the 47-square-metre studios under the concept of Modern Life, giving a warm welcome to owners and visitors. Studios are suitable for a younger generation, using particleboard to separate the spaces of a small room, thus allowing it more than one function. The designer also selected different textures of both cotton and wood for the walls to go with modern furniture to match the younger lifestyle. For Contemporary design, rooms use earth tones: bright brown wallpaper and wooden floors. The concept is Spa design, with both antique and modern furniture. Pornpatchara has also created a Luxury design by using oak wood for the dining and living rooms. Built-in furniture serves multiple functions in accordance with the owner's lifestyle. "When we decorate our customers' rooms we have to know their lifestyle: what do they do when they come back home? We design the rooms accordingly, to meet with each owner's after-work activity," she says. Pornpatchara adds that the condos have limited space for decoration, so a designer must incorporate more functions in each room. Somluck Srimalee The Nation
