DVD REVIEWS
13 Game Sayong (13 Beloved)

The story: The film follows the travails of a salesman, Phuchit (Krissada Sukosol Calpp), who loses his job, his girlfriend, is in debt and faces losing his car.

But there's light at the end of the tunnel when he receives an anonymous phone call telling him he can win millions if he  answers 13 questions. However, he doesn't know what awaits him.

Adapted from the comic strip "13th Quiz Show" by Ekasit Thairaat, the film is directed by Chookiat Sakweerakul, who also made a short film, "12 Begins". "12" is like a prelude to the deadly game in "13". Chookiat also puts another short film, "Earthcore", within "12". Both these shorts are included in the DVD.

The Disc: The two-disc set includes the film in DVD9-format. The film is only dubbed in Thai with Thai subtitles.

The second DVD, which comes in DVD5 format, includes a special version of "12 Begins" and "Earthcore", deleted scenes with the filmmaker's comments, discussions of the idea, behind-the-scenes features and comments from fans of the "13th Quiz Show".

Both discs contain a few "Easter egg(s)" - a gimmick that helps you find a hidden menu that opens special hidden features. Those who watch the movie using a dts5.1 sound system might encounter problems as the sound doesn't come out of the right speaker. Premium Digital is fixing the problem. Cover price is Bt379, but it retails for Bt230 to Bt260.

Cars

The Story: This animated film features a hotshot racing car, Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson), who follows his dream by going astray on Route 66. Stumbling upon a sleepy town, he discovers there are more things to life than fame. The movie also features the vocal talents of Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin and John Ratzenberger.

The Disc: Distributed by Pacific Marketing & Entertainment Company, the disc offers special features - two short-animated films, "Mater & The Ghost Light" and the Academy Award-nominated animated short, "One Man Band". Other features are an epilogue and inspiration for "Cars".

The disc also has an "Easter egg" menu. Don't waste time searching for the deleted-scenes, even though it's indicated on the cover. This feature is not included in the Zone 3 disc distributed by the company. Cover price is Bt399 and retails from Bt280 to Bt360.
