Thais face tough task

[BADMINTON] A Herculean task awaits Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkham as the Thai hopefuls go up against world champions Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms in today's quarter-finals of the US$300,000 (Bt10.23 million) Korea Open Badminton Super Series.
Sudket and Saralee, current world No 2 and second seeds, proved a cut above Indonesian-born Saputra Hendri Kurniawan and Chinese-born Li Yujia to power past the Singaporeans 21-14 21-13 in the second round last night. The Thai pairing, who started their new season by crashing out in the second round at the last week's Malaysia Super Series, tamed South Koreans Yoo Yeon-seong and Ha Jung-eun 21-17 21-16 in the opening round earlier. Robertson and Emms, world No 6 and joint fifth seeds who finished runners-up at the Malaysia Super Series, yesterday outclassed Indonesians Flandy Limpele and Vita Marissa 21-19 21-15. Meanwhile, world No 2 Lee Chong Wei remains an invincible giant for Thai ace Boonsak Ponsana, as the second-seeded Malaysian on Wednesday came from behind to beat the former Thailand Open champion 18-21 21-15 21-13 in the first round, stretching the win over Boonsak to six times in a row. In their previous meeting, Lee beat the same rival in the quarter-finals of last year's Asian Games. Boonsak also lost to the Malaysian ace in last year's Asian meet, plus the Malaysia Open, Taiwan Open and Japan Open. In the men's doubles second round, Sudket teamed up with Phattapol Ngernsrisuk to go down tamely to world No 3 and joint third seeds Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah of Malaysia 21-9 21-23 21-8.
