New charter to be ready by July 6

The new constitution will be completed by July 6, in keeping with the deadline set by the junta, Somkid Lertpaitoon, secretary to the Constitution Drafting Committee said Friday.
The first draft of the new charter should be finished by April 15 and ready to be submitted to the main Constitution Drafting Assembly in the first half of June, before being put to a referendum. "The draft will then be put to a referendum. And the final draft would be ready by July 6. This would meet the six-month deadline," Somkid told reporters. The Council for National Security (CNS) has vowed to write a new constitution for the country before holding a general election to return power to the people.
