Seminar: Deputy PMs to debate investment and curbing currency fluctuations

The Export-Import Bank of Thailand, in cooperation with the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and the Board of Investment, will organise a seminar titled "Investment Directions in 2007 and Getting Ready for the Fluctuating Baht" for entrepreneurs, investors and the general public.

The free seminar will take place on January 31 at Sofitel Central Plaza Bangkok.

Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister Kosit Panpiemras will deliver a keynote address on "Investment in the Sufficiency Economy Era", while Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister MR Pridiyathorn Devakula will deliver a keynote speech on "Government Measures and Approaches to Curb Baht Fluctuation".

Guest speakers from both the public and private sector will join a panel discussion on "Investment Directions from the Public and Private Sectors in 2007".

Travel: Jet's new India-Bangkok flights

India's Jet Airways has launched two new international flights to Bangkok, its 50th destination.

The daily direct flights from Delhi and Calcutta mark another milestone for Jet Airways, as it is the first time that the airline has operated inaugural flights from two metro cities in India to an international destination on the same day.

"Bangkok occupies pride of place as the 50th destination on our network and our third destination within the Asean region," Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, chief executive officer, said yesterday.

"The strengthening of economic ties between our two nations will see a marked increase in both business and tourist traffic, and this is our effort to provide travellers with convenient connections."

The flights will be operated with the new-generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft with winglets.

Retailing: Brown rice gets nationwide push

Fresh Brown Rice expects its brand Vita Rice, which began sales in December, to gain wider public awareness through an expansion to 100 shops nationwide and advertising.

CEO Sontirat Sonthichirawong said its brown rice had recently received a "top 10 innovation award".

The product was developed by Cereal Tech Corp's research and development department over the past five years, using a Bt50-million investment. Only 2 per cent of the Thai population currently eats brown rice.

The company has allocated a seven-digit fund for building awareness in its target groups - health-conscious people, medical patients and dieters - through TV and print media.
