TWZ upbeat on handsets

TWZ Corp expects its mobile-phone sales to more than double to Bt8 billion this year, thanks to taking on the Samsung line.

Managing director Puttachat Rungkasiri said yesterday that the company, as the exclusive distributor of Samsung handsets, would likely sell about 120,000 of the South Korean maker's products, worth Bt500 million per month or about Bt5 billion for the whole year.

TWZ has set up wholly owned SAM Corp to start distributing Samsung models next month. Samsung targets a 20-per-cent share of the local market this year, double the current level.

TWZ will focus on marketing middle and low-end Samsung phones in the mass market and also in major shopping malls.

TWZ targets an overall 15-per-cent market share this year, a jump from 7 per cent last year.
