New boss for Siam City Bank

The board of directors of Siam City Bank (SCIB) yesterday unanimously approved the appointment of Chaiwat Uthaiwan as bank president, effective from March 15.
Chairman Sompol Kiatphaibool said Chaiwat had expertise in retail banking, marketing and information technology, all of which the bank needed in order to develop. In addition, he has a knack for compromise, which is essential for the bank at the moment.Chaiwat is CEO of AIG Finance and country manager of the AIG Consumer Finance Group. Before taking over at AIG Finance, he was a high-ranking executive at Thai Danu Bank, which has since been integrated into TMB Bank. Sompol said Chaiwat would have a four-year term, evaluated every six months. "We've already set the bank's plan for 2007, and he will have to achieve the target." Sompol added that first senior executive vice president Lersuk Chuladesa would play a greater role in the bank. "The No-2 will have equal responsibilities and authority equal to the No 1," he said. Lersuk received full support from the banks' board and labour union to become the president in an earlier selection. However, the Financial Institutions Development Fund - the bank's major shareholder - threw its support behind former Bank of Asia president Chulakorn Singhakowin, because his score was the highest. The selection was later scrapped. Somruedi Banchongduang The Nation
