Ministry's inflation forecast

The Commerce Ministry stands by its forecast that the Kingdom's inflation this year will not exceed 3.5 per cent.
Commerce Minister Krirk-krai Jirapaet said yesterday the trend of unchanged goods prices and declining oil prices will curb inflation.
"The ministry will closely monitor changes in goods and service prices. The main concern of rising oil prices has now eased to a better situation," he said. Thailand's inflation was 4.7 per cent last year. The ministry has estimated that oil prices this year should be US$50 to $55 (Bt1766 to Bt1942) per barrel, falling from $58 to $63 per barrel last year. More products in Thai stores will require price labels, the ministry announced yesterday. Thirty-five products remained unchanged in its priority watch lists. However, new products requiring price labels to ensure fair practice to consumers include instant coconut milk, dental floss, gold bars, cement pipes, cement sheets, plastic wrappers, merit-making goods sets, gift baskets and ceramics.
