Data-encryption firm upbeat

CryptoGraf, a company selling an application to encrypt outgoing mobile-phone data messages, is upbeat about its prospects, given recent increased awareness of the need for privacy-protection measures.

The start-up firm believes the time is right to promote its encryption product, given the government's comments about the possibility that its conversations on cellular networks are being tapped.

Founder Jay Busari said the company now focused on selling the application to encrypt the sending of short messages, video clips and sound clips. Its main targets are privacy-sensitive people such as businessmen and bankers through to activists, politicians - and even lovers.

"In the world today, you don't fight with swords like in the time of King Naresuan, but with information, so it's something you have to protect," said the Thai executive.

Two-year-old CryptoGraf is in the process of gaining certification for its product from an international institute. Its application is available for download on a free-trial basis at its homepage.

The software is compatible with so-called smart phones, which use the well-known Symbian operating system.
