Udom likely to head up TAT domestic

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will hold a board meeting today in which Udom Matatamrongsiri, director of its Northeast region, is expected to be selected as its new deputy governor for domestic markets.

Udom has been director of  TAT's Japan office and its Rayong office.

A source at TAT said the chairman of the board, Tourism and Sports Minister Suwit Yodmanee, would approve the selection today.

However, the source said the board might consider another internal candidate, Jaruboon Pannanon, director of tourism product promotion.

TAT is seeking a new deputy governor to replace Phornsiri Manoharn, who became its new governor recently.

The source said Udom was probably the most suitable for the post because he was younger than Jaruboon. Though senior to Udom, Jaruboon would handle the new job for only nine months as he is due for retirement.

Some local newspapers reported that Jaruboon was expected to get the new position.

According to Phornsiri, work performance is the most important factor in the decision.

"TAT has reshuffled the organisation recently, so I wouldn't change too much," said Phornsiri.
