ZTE bids lowest price

Chinese telecom-equipment supplier ZTE yesterday appeared to clinch a deal to install CAT Telecom's optical-fibre network in the South.
ZTE (Thailand) offered the lowest price of Bt169.86 million versus the reference price of Bt212 million in the e-auction. The other four contenders were Huawei Technologies (Thailand), quoting more than Bt195 million; Jasmine Telecom Systems, quoting Bt211 million; Ericsson (Thailand), with Bt211.97 million; and Siemens, with Bt212 million. CAT will announce the winner next month. The project is part of CAT's Bt1.88-billion plan to wire the whole country with an fibre-optic network. The state agency will open bidding for the project in the Eastern Seaboard, the central provinces and the North today, featuring nine network routes with a total reference price of Bt605 million. The tender for the Northeast will take place tomorrow, consisting of seven routes worth Bt1.06 billion. The network is set to be rolled out nationwide within two years. Usanee Mongkolporn, The Nation
