CDA to examine drafting task ahead

Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) chairman Noranit Setabutr today meets informally with CDA members to discuss the scope of the assembly's responsibilities.
A formal session is scheduled for tomorrow when the body will consider appointments to six committees assisting in writing a new charter.
Corruption probes to push forward Investigations by the Assets Examination Committee (AEC) into allegations of corruption levelled at the overthrown Thaksin Shinawatra government are to continue. The AEC meets today and is expected to appoint a panel to probe the activities of 23 people implicated in alleged irregularities surrounding the purchase of bomb scanners for Suvarnabhumi Airport. It is expected to name a panel to question former deputy agriculture minister Newin Chidchob over the purchase of rubber saplings for distribution to farmers. The committee is waiting for preliminary findings from a subcommittee headed by Banjerd Singkaneti before filing formal charges.

Decision due on PM's forest retreat On Thursday, the National Counter Corruption Commission will indicate if allegations that Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont illegally owns 20 rai in a Nakhon Ratchasima forest reserve should be investigated. The Thai Rak Thai Party and members of anti-coup groups have encouraged the anti-graft agency to investigate the status of the land. They are suspicious about how Surayud acquired the plot.
