PTT biggest taxpayer

Duties and taxes paid by oil-and-gas giant PTT and American cargo-forwarder UPS made up 79 per cent of the 585.1 million pesos (Bt429.3 million) collected by the Customs Bureau in five special economic zones using the Port of Clark in Central Luzon in 2006, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

PTT paid 254.4 million pesos, district collector Ronnie Silvestre said.

The payments represent duties and taxes on goods brought out of the zones, he said.

The 2006 collections surpassed the target of 583.8 million pesos by 0.23 per cent, he said.

Of the 450 companies based in the five zones, fewer than 50 sell goods to the domestic market. Most manufacture for export.

The Port of Clark caters to Angeles Industrial Park in Bacolor, Pampanga; Tipco Estate Corp in Mabalacat, also in Pampanga; Luisita Industrial Park in Tarlac City and Santa Maria Industrial Park in Bulacan.
