MRTA worker hacked to death

Police have released details of the brutal murder on Thursday of a Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) technician.

The man was butchered with a machete while at work in an MRTA headquarters control room. His penis was slashed. A heart was drawn on his chest in blood.

Police suspect the killing of Phichai Thongbai was motivated by jealous rage and said the man had "multiple relationships".

The victim suffered severe head and neck wounds, and a deep cut in his left palm.

Investigator Maj-General Manit Wongsomboonc said police had questioned three colleagues, including a man exhibiting recent scratches on his body.

Police said people who entered the building in which the victim was killed could be traced through electronic entry cards. But they noted that the victim could have opened the door to his killer.

MRTA governor Praphas Jongsa-nguan said Phichai was a good worker.

He added that the killing had "no link" with the MRTA.
