Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra and her brother Bhanapot Damapong yesterday failed to turn up at the Assets Examination Committee (AEC) to hear charges that they colluded to evade tax from the share trading of Shinawatra Computer and Communications Co Ltd.
Noppadol Pattama, the Shinawatra family legal adviser, said Pojaman and her family were engaged in personal business abroad. He said Pojaman would give a statement in person to the AEC when it invites her to defend herself against the allegations. Pranee Wetchapruekpitak and Wanchai Honghern, two of six people accused over the charge, reported to the AEC with their lawyers. They will defend themselves against the charges within 15 days. Sak Korsaengrung, chairman of the panel probing the tax allegation, said Pojaman and Bhanapot could defend themselves either in person or by letter by January 19. He said the AEC allowed the lawyers of both to hear the charges. Sak said the AEC would mail the charges to them today and they would have to defend themselves within 15 days of receiving the registered mail.
