Details of state concessions, contracts to be made public

The Official Information Commission will ensure all state agencies reveal details of concessions and contracts for the public to access and check, PM's Office Minister Thirapat Serirangsan said yesterday.

To create information transparency with more concrete measures to be in line with Article 9 of the Official Information Act 1997, state agencies must reveal information about their projects, plans, budgets, contracts and concessions for the public to access.

High ranking officials from deputy permanent secretary to deputy director general and deputy provincial governor are responsible for making sure their agencies allow public access to the information.

The Official Information Commission will check on whether all state agencies were complying with the act by the end of February.

Thirapat said the government also plans to amend outdated laws to keep up with advanced technology as the amendment to the act in 2005 may not be complete. The government will spend Bt20 million to improve information transparency by developing an index to indicate the transparency of each state agency.
