Three new telecom licences approved

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) yesterday approved the granting of licences to the Metropolitan Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and the Provincial Electricity Authority to become telecom network and service providers; and to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to be a network provider.

BoI privileges

The Board of Investment yesterday approved tax incentives for a Bt2.554-billion business expansion by tyre-maker Michelin in Thailand.

Second airport

The Transport Ministry is likely to open a second airport on Koh Samui, following many complaints about high airfares charged by the existing monopoly operator. Transport Minister Theera Haocharoen yesterday said he had ordered the Aviation Department to study the possibility of opening a second airport on the island.
