Chronology of 14 school fires in Northeast

September 30 - A fire broke out at Nongkok Sabaeng Samakkhee School in Buri Ram. The construction of this one-storey school was funded by local people's donations.

The fire caused about Bt100,000 in damage. An electrical short-circuit was blamed for the fire.

October 1 - A small fire, caused by student recklessness, slightly damaged Ban Noikudkhla School in Nakhon Ratchasima.

October 10 - Two buildings at Ban Kham Pom School in Ubon Ratchathani were engulfed in fire. The damage was estimated at about Bt1.5 million. Possible causes: electrical short-circuit, reckless action or arson.

October 12 - A fire erupted at Na Charoen Wittaya School in Nong Khai and caused about Bt700,000 in damage. Electrical short-circuit was identified as the likely cause.

October 23 - A fire broke out at the Nong Ngu Loem School in Chaiyaphum and caused about Bt150,000 in damage. Electrical short-circuit was identified as the likely cause.

November 4 - A fire damaged the storage building of Ban None Rang School in Nakhon Ratchasima. The damage was estimated at Bt100,000. Electrical short-circuit was identified as the likely cause.

November 13 - A fire erupted at Thairath Wittaya 26 School in Buri Ram. Arson was strongly suspected.

November 20 - Ban Tha Sa-ard Community School in Loei caught fire. Electrical short-circuit was identified as the likely cause.

November 23 - A fire engulfed Ban Khok Thon Wittaya School in Nong Khai and caused about Bt2.19 million in damage. Electrical short-circuit was identified as the likely cause.

December 4 - A fire broke out at Ban Nong Waeng School in Nakhon Ratchasima. Electrical short-circuit was identified as the likely cause.

December 13 - Ban Soke Pakwan School in Yasothon was completely destroyed in a fire. Reckless action or arson were suspected.

December 16 - Ban Sakadnak Wittaya School caught fire and was razed. The damage was estimated at over Bt1 million. Arson was strongly suspected.

December 24 - A fire erupted at Prasarn Wittaya School in Nakhon Ratchasima and caused about Bt400,000 in damage. Two welders were charged with recklessness that led to the fire.

December 25 - A fire broke out at Prang Ku School in Si Sa Ket. Arson, electrical short-circuit or reckless action were listed as possible causes.

Note: All fires occurred outside of school hours or during school holidays.
