Fatalities averted as fires rage in Bangkok, Kanchanaburi; BMA to help

Three separate fires took place yesterday: one broke out in a nine-storey apartment building on Rama IV Road in Bangkok's Bang Rak district, injuring 12 people, five of them foreigners, including three African tourists, while earlier a blaze broke out at the Nang Nong 2 Community in Chom Thong district, damaging 15 homes.





Half of all South teachers 'stressed'

More than half the teachers living in the violence-plagued deep South suffer from "severe stress", according to the Mental Health Department.



University staff now 'official', PM says

The government has changed the official designation of staff at autonomous universities from "university employee" to "university official", Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said yesterday during an academic conference at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology, Lad Krabang.
