Nipit calls for action on tape

A former Democrat MP yesterday asked police to determine if a damaging voice recording is that of former deputy agriculture minister Newin Chidchob

Nipit Intarasombat said if the police could not identify the voice, he would approach research facilities.

The former rep for Phatthalung has been summoned by police for a meeting with investigators today in connection with a complaint filed against him by Newin concerning allegedly false allegations.

Nipit claimed that ahead of the February 2005 election Newin met in January with provincial authorities from Phatthalung and Satun and promised to give Bt100,000 to each tambon if the Thai Rak Thai Party won the election in those provinces.

The promise was allegedly recorded but the former Election Commission dropped an inquiry into the matter.
