Mystery Fires

In the three months since the September 19 coup 17 schools have burnt down, or almost two each week.

September 27: Three schools in two districts of Kamphaeng Phet catch fire. They were Ban Chong Lom and Ban Chantima schools in Lan Krabue and Ban Bueng Looknok School in Phran Kratai.

September 30: Fire at the twostorey Baan Kok Tabaeng School in Non Din Daeng district, Buri Ram was most likely caused by an elec¬trical shortcircuit.

October 1: Bannoikudkla School in Nakhon Ratchasima was burnt in unknown circumstances.

October 4: A Ban Sa School teacher's residence in Yan Talat dis¬trict, Kalasin catches fire after a probable electrical fault.

October 10: The 30yearold Ban Kham Pom School in Samrong district of Ubon Ratchathani is burnt down after an electrical fault.

October 23: Ban Nong Ngu Leuam School in Phu Khieo dis¬trict of Chaiyaphum burns down as the result of arson or an electrical fire, police said.

November 4: A caretaker at Ban Nonerung School in Chum Phuang district of Nakhon Ratchasima admits his accidentallydropped cigarette causes a fire in a storage building.

November 8: An electrical fault causes a fire at Wat Sri Kham Chomphu School in Saraphi dis¬trict of Chiang Mai.

November 13: Arson is suspect¬ed at Wat Khoa Din School in Uthai district, Ayutthaya.

November 20: A wooden build¬ing at Loei's Ban Tha Saard School catches fire and is destroyed.

November 23: Khoke Thon Witthaya School in Nong Khai's Phon Phisai district is partly destroyed by an earlymorning fire.

November 30: Police suspect an electrical fault is behind a fire at Wat Nong Krabok School in Rayong's Ban Khai district.

December 4: An electrical fault is blamed for the destruction of Ban Nong Waeng School in Nakhon Ratchasima's Sakae district.

December 9: Fire breaks out at Ban Buensuay School in Sri Nakhon of Sukhothai and Ratprachauthid School in Phitsanulok's Thai district.

December 12: The caretaker's residence at Loei's Ban Phusawan School catches fire. Police suspect arson.

December 13: Fire at Ban Sok Pakwan School in Yasothon's Sai Mun district.

December 16: Fire at Sakat Nak Witthaya School in the Soeng Sang district of Nakhon Ratchasima.
