Top model catches portraits

The D900, the top model in Samsung's slim-profile series of mobile phones, features a very impressive bright, crisp display.
The Quad-Band (850/900/1800/1900) GSM phone comes with a 2.1-inch screen displaying 240 x 320 pixels in over 262,000 colours. The screen brightens photographs captured by the phone's built-in three-megapixel camera. During a test in The Nation newsroom, the crisp, bright quality of the phone impressed several staff who liked seeing their faces enhanced on the phone's screen. The D900, which is technically called The Ultra Edition 12.9, is a slide-up model. The two other models in the ultra-slim series are the X820, which is the lightest stick model, and the clamshell D830. The D900 measures only 103.5 x 51 x 12.9 mm and weighs 85 grams. It comes with 65MB embedded memory, which could be expanded with a MicroSD card. Since it can double as a still and video camera, you should get a large memory card for it. It can take MPEG4 video at a top resolution of 352 x 288 pixels at 30 frames per second. The phone can also function as a portable digital music player. It supports MP3, AAC, AAC+ and e-AAC+ audio formats and it can be linked to Bluetooth stereo headphones. The test found that its built-in speaker reproduced clear sounds during conversation, and music ringtones were reproduced loud and strong. It has a talk time of three hours and a standby time of 250 hours. For data connectivity, the phone can be linked to EDGE (Enhanced Data GSM Environment), which is much faster than the normal GPRS network. I tried connecting to the Internet using True's EDGE network and managed to download files at an acceptable speed, compared with the slower GPRS speed. The D900 has a suggested retail price of Bt16,900. The Nation
