Tongdaeng progeny put through paces

Khun Kaonieow Mamuang, the grandson of His Majesty the King's favourite pet dog Khun Tongdaeng, yesterday showed off his performing skills on the opening day of the sixth Thailand Grand Pet Show at Nakhon Pathom's Rose Garden Riverside.

Despite the sweltering heat, throngs of primary students waited patiently for the exciting demonstrations of agility and obedience by Khun Kaonieow Mamuang.

Among words of praise and encouragement, Khun Kaonieow Mamuang displayed his impressive abilities such as trotting, sitting and backing up on command from his trainer.

He also exhibited a remarkable sense of balance by stepping on bottles and walking a tightrope across the ring, but the biggest wow for the audience was when he fearlessly jumped through a series of fiery hoops.

Khun Fufu, a white male poodle belonging to HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, also exuded charm and executed clever stunts.

Today at 3pm it is the turn of Khun Kaogriapwao, a younger sister of Khun Kaonieow Mamuang, to take centre stage, while tomorrow Khun Nilapatta, another grandson of Khun Tongdaeng, will go through his paces at 3pm before the event draws to a close at 6pm.

With a plethora of activities, the Rose Garden has been turned into an information knowledge centre on pets and livestock featuring resources on subjects like food, vaccines, diseases and breeding.

Several kinds of pets are competing for trophies from Their Majesties the King and Queen and the Crown Prince.

Besides boosting the pet industry to international levels, the festival is also aimed at encouraging children to love and care for their pets and promoting closer family ties through pets.
