Progress report ready

The head of the Council for National Security (CNS) will hold a press conference on Tuesday to report on the progress of its "political reform", the CNS spokesman said yesterday.
Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said CNS chairman General Sonthi Boonyaratglin had planned to meet the press exactly three months after the coup."We are not concerned about the moves against us and the government by some political groups," he said. "Most of the people have a good understanding of our mission. They only want us to speed up our work." Sonthi will discuss the CNS's performance and the investigations by the Assets Examination Committee and the National Counter Corruption Commission into government schemes allegedly involving corruption during the Thaksin administration. Sonthi has denied quotes by Army Region 1 Commander Lt-General Prayuth Chan-ocha that the CNS had blacklisted more than 200 politicians - mostly former Thai Rak Thai MPs - who could pose a threat to the current administration. "The CNS has never done such a thing," Sonthi insisted, adding Prayuth told him he had never given any interviews to any reporters.
