Biodiesel :ThyssenKrupp Group commissioned for turnkey plants at Rayong industrial estate

Thai Oleochemicals and Thai Fatty Alcohols have jointly commissioned the German firm Uhde, which is in the technologies segment of the ThyssenKrupp Group, to build a turnkey plant complex for the combined production of biodiesel and fatty alcohols in the Map Ta Put Industrial Estate in Rayong province.
The contract is for a biodiesel (methyl ester) plant with an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes and a fatty-alcohol plant with an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes. The scope of the contract includes engineering, supply of all materials and equipment, construction and supervisory services. The contract is worth ¤95 million (Bt4.47 billion). The main feedstock for the new plant complex will be palm oil from Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries. The processing of used cooking oil in the plant is also planned for the future. The biodiesel plant is due to come onstream late next year, followed by the commissioning of the fatty-alcohol plant in January 2008.

Airline Industry :Four Asean countries to liberalise linkages Four Asean countries - Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines - will sign an agreement to liberalise their air linkages further, Malaysian Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy said in Kuala Lumpur last week. The agreement, which is under the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East-Asean Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga) initiative and was set to be inked at this week's Asean Summit in the Philippines, will allow unlimited flight frequencies and schedules between 13 cities of the four countries, Malaysia's Bernama news agency quoted the minister as saying. With the new arrangement, greater movements of tourists, traders and investors within the Bimp-Eaga area could be expected, the minister said. The governments of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are united in their desire to enable their area to participate fully in the Asean development process and agreed to form the Asean subregional economic-growth area Bimp-Eaga, or simply Eaga, in March 1994.
