Bt2 billion for Ban Mankong

The Minister of Social Development and Human Security Paiboon Wattanasiritham revealed that the government has allocated more than Bt2 billion to support the "Ban Mankong" home-building project for 2007.

The budget will be spent on the construction of 30,000 residential units nation-wide.

The minister said that past operations had proved that the "Ban Mankong" project was transparent and that the ministry had promoted people to participate in organising the project.

Residents living in 30 finished units have worked together to

set-up a community welfare

fund with help from the government.

In the near future, it will expand the "Ban Mankong" project to four other provinces. The ministry recently signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a similar fund for Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Chaiyaphum, and Roi Et.
