Red Cross in action

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Saowanit Kongsiri says the Thai Red Cross Society and relevant agencies have been working together on a project to identify victims of the 2004 tsunami in order to reunite them with their relatives.

The project is in line with the International Red Cross Society's policies, which aim to bring families together after they have been separated by disasters and wars.

Earlier, Red Cross groups from 46 countries in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions met to outline a 10-year strategic plan to provide aid to those who have lost contact with family members.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement help to reunite family members, including arranging prisoners to meet relatives and sending bodies to families for funeral rites. - The Nation
