Thai, Chinese and Japanese sprinters have an equal chance of sweeping both gold medals in the men's and women's 4x100m relay events that get under way today. In the past 20 years, Thailand, China and Japan have taken turns winning the men's and women's 4x100m relay gold medals. Thailand's men's relay team bettered the Asian Games record of 38.82 seconds set by the Kingdom's sprinters at the previous Games in Busan, South Korea, a few month ago and hopes to repeat its performance. In the women's 4x100m relay, the foursome of Nongnuch Saenrat, Orranut Klomdee, Juthamas Thaworncharoen and Sawal Jaksunil and two substitutes - Sujirat Sukkha and Patcharin Chandaeng - have shown tremendous form. Thailand has sent a strong contingent of 30 athletes including 13 women. At the Busan Games, the Thai squad returned with four medals including one gold in the men's 4x100m relay with a Games record of 38.82 seconds and one silver from the women's 4x100m relay event.
