Sondhi drops civil suit againt MCOT

Media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul has withdrawn a civil suit he filed against the Mass Communication Organisation of Thailand (MCOT) and its former executives for dropping his television programme "Muang Thai Rai Sapda" (Thailand Weekly).
The case was against former MCOT chairman Rewat Chamchalerm, board member Tongthong Chandrangsu and president Mingkwan Sangsuwan, as well as MCOT. It accused them of defaming Sondhi, who founded the Manager Group. Sondhi requested Bt1 compensation if he won the case. The suits claimed that on September 15 the four defendants gave a press conference about Channel 9's decision to scrap the weekly live programme. They said Sondhi had given one-sided information in the programme without letting those mentioned give their side. Sondhi's lawyer Suwat Apaipak said Sondhi had discussed the issue with MCOT's acting president Pongsak Payakvichien and agreed to stop all conflicts with MCOT. The situation had now changed. The three executives had resigned from their positions, Suwat said. He said he had also requested withdrawal of a related civil case that Sondhi and Thai Day Dot Com Co Ltd filed against MCOT for breaking a contract. The compensation requested was Bt142.5 million. The court is due to decide on whether to drop the case within one week. Kesinee Taengkhiew The Nation
