Surapong in Shin tax query

Leader of the Network of People's Power for Democracy, Surapong Towijakchaikul, visited the National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) yesterday to defend the deposed prime minister's children.
The former Thai Rak Thai member claimed Thaksin Shinawatra's children should not have to pay tax on the sale of Shin Corp shares. Surapong spoke after submitting documents transcribed from records of the deputy director-general of the Revenue Department during an inquiry with an economic committee on February 1. "At that time, the deputy director-general insisted Panthongtae and Pinthongta, did not have to pay tax. But today, the Revenue Department has broken its word, asking them to pay Bt5.8 billion in owed tax," he said. He needed to submit the evidence to the NCCC, he said, to examine if the Revenue Department's performance was legitimate or not. However, Surapong dismissed claims that he was acting on behalf of the Shinawatra family.
