Watch fair set to take in Bt250m
The sixth Bangkok World Watch is expected to generate more than Bt250 million in sales, says Saridpong Rattanapote, The Mall Group's chief merchandiser.
The fair, which started last Thursday and runs until Decem-ber 17 in the MCC Hall on the fourth floor of The Mall Bang Kapi, features more than 50,000 watches from 110 international brands. "Since the fair is being held in the festive month of December, all major watch brands are displaying their complete product line-ups. It helps our fair to be more interesting by offering a greater variety of watches," said Saridpong. He said prices of watches available at the fair ranged from thousands of baht to millions. "We expect more than 20,000 visitors to visit our fair daily. Many consumers have bought three or four watches for themselves to wear on different occasions," said Saridpong. C Thong Panich, a local distributor of watches, including Rado, Mido, Hamilton, Ball and Citizen, has introduced three new brands of fashion-oriented watches at the event: Aquanautic, Formex 4 Speed and Chronotech. C Thong Panich management executive Ong-ard Mahadum-rongkul said the three brands were especially attractive to local collectors because they had been produced in quite limited quantities, some in special limited editions. He said the Chronotech watch had become popular after being used by Formula One world champion racing driver Fernando Alonso of Renault. "Aquanautic watches have been made in Geneva, Switzerland, and are suitable for water sports. Aquanautic has a strong positioning as a sports luxury watch that can be used every day. The Aquanautic is available in automatic and quartz ranges for both men and women," said Ong-ard. Prices for Aquanautic watches range from Bt60,000 to Bt300,000. The Formex 4 Speed is also a sports-watch brand, inspired by high-speed sporting activities involving aircraft, cars and boats. All timepieces have a chronograph function and been created with a perfect balance between speed and watch technology. Major customer targets of the Formex 4 Speed are teenagers and working people who enjoy speed sports. Prices range from Bt60,000 to Bt200,000. Ong-ard said the Chronotech was one of the hottest fashion watches from Italy, available in unique designs featuring trendy colours, innovation and fantasy. Chronotech prices range from Bt5,000 to Bt30,000.
