THAI lets Indians enjoy Chiang Mai

Thai Airways International (THAI) recently flew more than 400 Indian air cargo agents to Chiang Mai to attend the 34th Annual Air Cargo Agents Association of India (ACAAI) Convention, which the airline said had boosted Chiang Mai's position as an international meetings destination and increased local revenue.
Serm Phenjati, THAI's Director of Royal Orchid Holidays, which organised the entire conference, said the company invited the ACAAI to hold their convention in Chiang Mai this year following the success of last year's event in Bangkok. He said THAI chose Chiang Mai because the company viewed it as having good-quality and accessible hotels, tourist attractions and hospitality services. He added that, as THAI had organised for convention delegates to visit various attractions around Chiang Mai including the Royal Flora Ratchapruek 2006, the convention had served to promote the city to the Indian tourist market. Poonsak Chumchuay, director of THAI's cargo and mail sales department, also said that this year's ACAAI convention had served to promote Chiang Mai as an international conference destination. He said that THAI was honoured to host the welcoming reception for convention delegates on December 1, when a speech was given on cargo operations between Thailand and India that included details of problems that have been encountered and suggestions for future improvements. THAI flies a total of 36 flights each week to eight destinations in India. Its routes to Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore have been running for some time, while routes to Hyderabad, Bodhgaya and Varanasi were opened on October 30.
