Top three life threats

Heart disease, accidents and cancer top the list of life-insurance claims, according to the Commerce Ministry's Insurance Department.
Cancer was the No-1 cause of life-insurance claims at 20 per cent, department director-general Chandhra Buranarerk said.Second on the list was heart disease with 16 per cent of claims and accidents came in third with 10 per cent, she said. When it comes to health-insurance claims cancer is at the top of that list, too. Expenditure for treatment has risen dramatically in recent years, Chandhra said. Chandhra encourages people to consider additional life- or health-insurance cover to include cancer death or treatment. Those purchasing insurance should ensure companies will pay the full cost of treatment. Many policies offer limited cover only and conditions. The department offers insurance-coverage advice at it 1186 hotline.
