THAI FILMS :Director and awards organiser Charn Meesri dies aged 70

Renowned film director Charn Meesri died early yesterday of acute heart failure. He was 70 years old.
The former president of the Thai Film Foundation succumbed to a heart attack caused by lung oedema. His funeral service will be held at Lat Phrao Temple, but the cremation date has not been decided. Charn had suffered from chronic diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension. He was admitted to Bangkok's Deja Hospital on Thursday night following heavy vomiting and nausea. Before his illnesses, Charn was in charge of organising awards, including the Suraswadi Awards for movies and the Mekhala Awards for television dramas.
DRUG KILLINGS :Probe commission to meet on Friday A government commission looking into more than 2,500 drug-related murders associated with narcotics crackdowns during the Thaksin government will have its first meeting on Friday. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont.
