Hill-tribes concert tomorrow

Several hill-tribes will stage a cultural concert tomorrow to celebrate both the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne and his 80th birthday next year.

The concert, between 5pm and 10pm, is at the Hill Tribe Museum at King Rama 9 Park on Chotana Road, Chiang Mai. The tribes are being helped by the Chiang Mai Provincial Administration Organisation. Participating groups include Karen, Kachin, Yao, Hmong, Lahu, Lisu, Lua, Akha and the Dara-uang group of Mae Hong Son.

Thailand has about 100,000 tribes people.

The concert will express the tribes gratitude to His Majesty and feature music and other performances.

Sunday will feature a parade when Royal Project Foundation chairman His Serene Highness Prince Bhisatej Rajani presides over a blessing at 9am. There will be a ceremony in the Christian faith.

The cultural event winds up with an address from tribe members who have met His Majesty.

Information is available at the Hill Tribe Museum at 053-210872.
