1,989 NPA nominees ready

The names of nominees for the National People's Assembly (NPA) will go before the Council for National Security (CNS) chairman today.
The names of 1,989 people will be submitted, according to the chairman of the selection committee. If CNS chairman General Sonthi Boonyaratglin confirms the names they will be forwarded for Royal endorsement, ACM Chalit Pukphasuk said yesterday. He expected the list to be submitted for Royal approval next week. Chalit said 576 appointees were from the public sector, 546 from the private sector, 540 from the civil sector and 327 from the academic sector. The number is 11 short of the original target of 2,000. It is not necessary to nominate a full 2,000 names because the interim Constitution states there are to be "no more than 2,000" NPA members, he said. - The Nation
