PWO sets December 15 deadline for rice millers

The Public Warehouse Organisation (PWO) has set a deadline of December 15 for rice mills participating under the government's rice pledging programme to deliver a total of 550,000 tonnes.
A PWO source said yesterday any rice millers failing to meet the deadline would no longer be allowed to participate in the programme. The measure is aimed at forcing mills to polish their rice and clear their stocks in preparation for the new crop, 80 per cent of which will enter the market from about the middle of next month through next February. The government's pledging programme this year started on November 13, with a volume of 35,000 tonnes of paddy rice already reached. As of last Friday, 343 rice mills were involved in the programme. - The Nation.
