Lottery law to be rushed The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Wednesday deliberates a bill proposed by the Government Lottery Office (GLO) to legalise the two- and three-digit lottery. If passed, the law will require the GLO turn over ticket-sales income to the Finance Ministry as consolidated revenue. The government reportedly wants the bill's three readings heard in one session to allow the lottery to be resumed before the New Year. Observers suggest that this is unlikely due to opposition to the legislation in the NLA, including from Chamlong Srimuang.
Election hearing set to begin The Constitution Tribunal will on Thursday begin hearing the case against five political parties accused of election-law violations. If found guilty, the Thai Rak Thai, Democrat, Thai Ground, Chat Thai, and Progressive Democratic parties face possible dissolution. The tribunal has sought tight security for the trial for fear party supporters would rally.
