Triple T Global gets gateway go-ahead

Triple T Global Net, a subsidiary of TT&T, has been granted a licence from the national telecom regulator to offer an international Internet gateway (IIG) service.
Supot Tiarawut, senior vice president for corporate strategy and planning of TT&T, said the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) had issued the company a type-2 licence to operate the service. IIGs serve as a channel for local Internet service-providers to connect or exchange traffic with global Internet networks. Type-2 licences are issued to applicants whose influence on competition in the IIG market is expected to be limited. Supot said the company estimated it would spend less than Bt100 million developing the service. Among the existing IIG providers licensed by the NTC is True Internet Gateway. However, TOT has yet to allow True Internet Gateway to lease its facilities so it can provide the service. Supot said Triple T Global Net might consider switching from a type-2 licence to a type-3 licence, which would allow it to directly connect with overseas service-providers instead of having to rely on TOT or CAT's network as required by the type-2-licence.
