100 projects on show at Thailand Condo Expo

The Condominium Association of Thailand expects up to 50,000 visitors and sales of more than Bt1 billion from the Thailand Condo Expo 2006 at the Bangkok Convention Centre, Central Plaza Lat Phrao.
President Athip Peechanon yesterday said that about 100 projects worth up to Bt50 billion were on display from major real-estate companies such as Areeya, Supalai and Tararom. The three-day event finishes on Sunday. New projects in Bangkok's central business district and suburbs are on display, and many property firms are offering special incentives to customers. Siam Commercial Bank, Kasikorn-bank, Kiatnakin Bank and Bangkok Bank have teamed up with True and Tipco to stage the Condo Cyber Juice Bar at the expo and are offering special mortgages. Bangkok Bank executive vice president Ruchanee Nopmuang said the bank had two interest-rate options for customers who apply for a home loan to purchase a new property or to refinance an existing mortgage. The first option is a fixed rate of 3.99 per cent for the first three months and 5 per cent for the fourth to 12th months. The second is a fixed rate of 3.99 per cent for the first three months and minimum lending rate (MLR) minus 1.5 per cent for the fourth to 12th months. For each option, MLR minus 0.25 per cent will apply for the rest of the contract. Customers can choose repayment terms of up to 30 years. Ruchanee said the condominium market had been growing in recent years, with both Thais and foreigners having shown interest in projects. The number of completed condominiums from 2005 until June 2006 was as high as single-house schemes. It is expected that demand will remain high, as city people tend to live a modern lifestyle with a residence close to their workplace. Kittisak Jampathippon, deputy CEO of property consultant Harrison, said the expo had attracted good support from Bangkok condo projects, especially those near BTS and MRT stations. Beach projects in major tourist destinations - both complete and under construction - are also featured at the event. Condominium projects have been growing at a faster rate than last year. The highly competitive market gives customers more choice and benefits.
