A Chula staff sentenced to 12 years for killing a man in a fight

The Criminal Court sentenced to 12 years Friday an employee of Chulalongkorn University who was found guilty of killing a man after he urinated in front of his house last year.
Last March, at 1.30am, merchant Suthan Ithisirising, 45, enjoyed a party in Bangkok's Bang Sue neighbourhood and later urinated in front of house of 47-year-old university lab assistant, Santilak Thanyahan. Santilak fired a gun twice in the air leading to the two quarrelled briefly. Suthan's friends tried to stop them from fighting and Santilak thus shot at the group and the bullet hit Suthan in the chest, killing him at the scene. The court saw the Santilak's claim - that the gun was accidentally fired and he had no intention to kill Suthan - as not convincing because the bullet should not hit Suthan who stood behind him. The court sentenced Santilak to 12 years and six days in jail for murdering and using a gun in public. Since Santilak had a one-year suspended jail term for an assault charge, he would serve 13 years and six days in jail.
